Kos & Kompany: Cop Shooting Equals Twitter Fun

UPDATED: Kos Poll, How Many People Are Going To Die Due To Talk Radio?
When we were out of power, we organized to win the next election. Conservatives, apparently, prefer to talk “revolution” and kill cops. – Markos Moulitsas

This weekend, three Pittsburgh police officers were gunned down in cold blood by a disturbed gunman during an hours long standoff in what is an otherwise quiet suburb. You probably wouldn’t normally think that’s a source for clever one liners, but then, you aren’t a DailyKos kid are you?

Tommy Christopher was reading his Twitter page last night and saw a disturbing tweet from Markos Moulitsas. It was a retweet (in other words, resending something another person posted) of a message on Dana Houle’s twitter feed. Houle is a front-pager at DailyKos. Here is the relevant series (from DailyDose.us):

DanaHoule With no Veep to shoot people, folks are taking things in to their own hands about 20 hours ago from TweetDeck

DanaHoule “He said he’ll be ready if there’s ever an invasion of the United States and that he had stockpiled foods and guns…” Wolverines!! about 19 hours ago from TweetDeck

TommyXtopher What does this mean? RT @danahoule @markosmoulitsas With no Veep to shoot people, folks are taking things in to their own hands about 15 hours ago from TweetDeck

markosmoulitsas When we were out of power, we organized to win the next election. Conservatives, apparently, prefer to talk “revolution” and kill cops. about 15 hours ago from TweetDeck

Tommy Christopher is rightly offended by the Kos Kids turning a tragedy into a chance for one-liners. Sadly, though, this is only the latest in a long series of such commentary by Markos and his legions of like-minded liberal ghouls.

Here is the portion of the news story that Kos and Kompany are using as an excuse for their loathsome behavior:

Police Chief Nate Harper said the motive for the shooting isn’t clear, but friends said the gunman recently had been upset about losing his job and feared the Obama administration was poised to ban guns.

Nevermind that the story goes on to elaborate on numerous incidents highlighting the shooter’s instability. Kos and his Komrades find this to be sufficient grounds for suggesting that conservatives like to kill cops.

Here is what Tommy has to say about Kos:

Maybe there’s something wrong with me, but I think this is shameful. This is the kind of thing I would probably delete at Political Machine. I don’t even see the humor in it, even setting aside the heartless ghoulishness involved.

More broadly, I’m starting to feel like a lot of the liberal blogosphere is forgetting what it means to be a liberal, or maybe I’m using the wrong word. After 8 years of mortal kombat with the right, we’ve swung too far, become too belligerent.

More and more, I find the left taking shots at targets that they ought to leave alone, or even reach out to. Take the Palin family, for instance. The same writer, Houle, goes Full Snarkal Jacket on the Palin family. Now, I am as staunch an opponent of Sarah Palin as there is, but I fail to see how her troubled family validates my policy disagreements with her. In fact, her family, and Levi’s, are precisely the people we should be reaching out to. Normal people have dysfunctional family members whom they a. don’t think represent themselves and b. they still love.

That is a good argument and he makes a very valid point, but it’s not the whole story.

What Tommy doesn’t understand, as Ed Morrissey points out, is that this isn’t a momentary lapse for Markos, or some new development born of years of combat online. This is how the Kos wing of the Democrat party operates. Whenever there is a shooting, you can count on the commenters at DailyKos blaming Limbaugh and Hannity. Note, I don’t say, whenever there is a shooting which involves something right wing, just whenever there is a shooting.

Diaries and comments at DailyKos indicting conservatives as inciters of murder are utterly commonplace. And not just at DailyKos. To a whole wing of the Democrats it’s axiomatic that Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck cause violence. I’m reminded of a recent episode of Real Time with Bill Maher, wherein he and his panel claim that the invective and hyperbole of conservative pundits is so excessive and that it invites harm on Obama, and then equate Glenn Beck with Nazi sympathizer and apologist Father Coughlin. Yes, all in the same segment. Yes, Keith “YOU’RE A FASCIST, SIR” Olbermann.

It’s very telling. Calling conservatives Nazis isn’t even hyperbole to their minds. But calling Obama’s socialist policies socialist is an incitement to murder.

Maher inserts a little speech about free speech into the discussion – which elicits a chuckle from Keith I might point out – but that lip service is belied by the content. It’s belied by story after story at DailyKos calling for the ouster, even arrest, of conservative talk radio hosts. It’s belied by their elected representatives who continue their assault on conservative radio. It’s belied by their President, who uses his bully pulpit to mock and belittle radio and television hosts who criticize him.

This wing of Democrats, Kos and those who follow him, they want only one thing from conservatives: Silence. And convincing people that being conservative is enough to warrant cop killing is just one example of how they expect to attain it.

Something ugly has been growing on the left for many years, most visibly the last eight. It’s a closed loop ideology that holds that opposing points of view are de facto violence. It is filled with a rage and contempt, a vile and sneering disdain which views conservatives as less than human, that considers conservative thought to be … thought crime. It is festering and spreading, and it carries with it the specter of the silencing of dissent. Because it does not engage, it does not debate, and it does not quibble over policy or argue on the merits.

Instead it points an indignant finger at the whole of conservatism and names us murderous. That is not political discourse, it’s not any kind of discourse. It’s Olbermann and Garafalo claiming conservatism represents mental disease and Frank “once an evangelical” Schaeffer urging Obama to purge conservatives from the political arena. And it’s Markos Moulitsas and his minions routinely pinning murder on talk show hosts. It isn’t political discourse, it’s invective and spittle-flecked rage masquerading as commentary.

Tommy Christopher is suprised that his fellow Democrats would behave in this way. But nobody should be surprised. This is nothing if not utterly routine for Kos and his wing of the party.

- Caleb Howe

UPDATE: See what I mean? “How many more people are going to die due to right-wing fear and paranoia before the wingnut media finally dials back its inflammatory rhetoric?”

UPDATE II: Tommy puts up a quit blog at Kos, check out the madness in the comments, such as this gem from Dana Houle, the original Tweeter.

…it wasn’t a “joke,” and one would probably have to be looking for that meaning to conclude that it was. The reality is that the rightwing has been scaring the hell out of people about how Obama is going to take away their guns so much that it’s practically inevitable that now that he’s president we’re going to see more instances of vulnerable people on the edge of paranoia taking these fearmongering claims to heart and go on shooting sprees. David Neiwert is just one of many people who predicted long ago that if a Democrat won the 2008 election that we’d probably see an increase of rightwing violence. While I don’t count the shooting yesterday as militia-like activity, it’s clear from the statements about the guy that his mind was completely addled by the garbage being pushed by the right that Obama is a threat to their rights, their liberty, that the man is comin’ for their guns, we’re becoming a police state, etc.

With authoritarians out of office, we’re seeing more authoritarian-inspired rhetoric coming from the right. And that rhetoric is going to contribute to more unstable people like yesterday’s shooter acting on that authoritarian rhetoric and shooting people…including cops.

UPDATE III: King of the moonbat league chimes in. The only surprise is that he didn’t manage to shoehorn in some dig at Palin.

Many of us have worried that the heated, apocalyptic rhetoric of the anti-Obama forces might spill over at some point into violence in the hands of individuals prone to lashing out. We now have what seems to be a clear instance of that and three dead police officers. One wonders whether Fox News or the Second Amendment fanatics will chill it out a little. And then one realizes who we’re talking about.

UPDATE IV: Just found this story by Don Surber on Maher’s commentary, which is very relevant here, and well worth reading. Also here and here from Confederate Yankee (h/t Instapundit) … must reads.

UPDATE V: Go figure. Kos Kommenters think Tommy deserves to DIE for his heresy:

Good bye. Scum like you should not be allowed to breath[sic]. More or less allowed to use a computer. What “Kos” said was true in every since of the word. I just wish you the best of no luck.

Apparently the irony is lost on this Kossak.

commit crimes, the MSM and the left talk about the tragedy of the “individual” and dismiss any greater political motive – as an aside when there is an overt political motive (i.e. terrorists) they blame the US – when an unhinged loser says anything that is to the right of Nancy Pelosi it is a grand condemnation of everyone on the right.

I am awaiting the inevitable cries that “talk radio” did it and Rush Limbaugh should be brought up on murder charges.

Across the entire US and throughout Europe the Left attacks the right and the media never report on it.
For example how many on the Right were involved in the chaos at the G-20 meeting?
How many on the Right attack Liberal guest speakers on college ‘campi’ (to use Rush’s term for the plural)?
How many on the Right have hung Obama in effigy?

The hypocrisy of the Left is stunning. And the MSM treatment of the difference between how the Right behaves (peaceful Tea parties) and how the Left behaves (almost always violent) is shameful.

It’s due to that “8 years of mortal kombat with the right,” you understand.

It would be nice if these people started taking personal responsibility for their own actions. Or at least stopped making excuses for the actions of those from their own faction.

I think

DerKrieger (Diary) Sunday, April 5th at 3:33PM EST (link)

…that if the Left would just leave us alone there would be no reason for ‘kombat’. But the Left is relentlessly on the offensive to grow government, raise taxes, rewrite history, stamp out individuality, blame the West for the world’s ills, crush dissent, impose a multi-culti stifling PC climate, establish global socialism, and vilify Christianity that forces us on the Right to the ramparts to preserve civilization. Most of us I’m sure would prefer to be left alone in the America of our founding but because of the statist, we cannot let down our guard and rest.

you hit the nail on the head right there Krieger. I think I can speak for almost everyone on the right when I say that we all just want to be left alone. We don’t want the guv’mint or anyone for that matter interfearing in our pursuit of life, liberty and happiness. The people on the left, however, believe that individualism is a social disease and no one should be left alone. I would much rather be doing something other than battling insane rhetoric from the left but If I don’t stay aware, then one of these days my right to do as I please will be gone entirely.

In this instance, the cops were the villains for going after this child molester, in their opinion. But for the above story, the cops were the victims and the right wing is to blame.

Any possibility that Tommy might take this to heart and continue to see the truth right in front of him?

Not the right.

This is more projection — Kos and company are just surprised that someone who shot cops WASN’T sympathetic with their desire to, you know — kill cops. I mean, if Ayers went and shot a cop they’d understand. But someone who doesn’t routinely call for the death of police officers? That. That was new to them.

We have yet to plumb the Darkness

jimmuy8 (Diary) Sunday, April 5th at 4:18PM EST (link)

That is the mind of the left. And I say that with all seriousness.

The diary is spot-on. There is a very, very dangerous force within the Democratic Party. I have seen–too often–the comment on a leftist site, the notion that Republicans must become extinct, both literally and figuratively–that it is the hounded few who remain who continue to cause the failure of the 0 to achieve our promised paradise.

If there were a Republican Party, their dangerous ambitions would be their downfall.

This attitude of attack of the left is not just to drive the conservative out of the public arena–it is, as it’s ultimate goal, to drive the plebes, the commoners, the voters out of the public arena.

They have no interest in anyone who will not advance their agenda.

If we are to save the country, to save the conservative ideal, we must engage the apathetic and apolitical.

So far, they are content to sit by.

Soon we will reach the point where no laws will save, not the 2nd, not the money–they are slowly bringing the whole machinery of government to bear upon any who would stand against them. We saw how casually they went after Joe the Plumber; they brought down Stevens; they secured 0 his Senate seat; we see how ruthlessly they continue to go after Palin. We will soon see a blossoming of “investigations” into conservative leaders–a pernicious algae bloom. They, now in power, have magically come across hidden evidence of malfeasance of the conservative. There will be allegations from the fever swamps and “the seriousness of the charges” will mandate an “investigation.” They have been laying the groundwork for this for some time–that they spent so much time accusing Bush of doing such was to deaden the public to when it really does happen and to silence any opposition (you wouldn’t listen to us when the evil Bush was doing what you now claim, how can we take you seriously?).

The most dangerous and deadly force, the most efficient and ruthless killer of mankind in the last 100 years has been government.

We are not safe in her arms . . . .

are deplorable. The recent rash of shootings is nothing to joke about and to do so is terribly insensitive.

I am troubled, though, by statements also made by Glen Beck and Rep. Bachmann that give the left ammunition to criticize conservatives. As some here may be aware, Beck recently implied that FEMA concentration camps were being set up around the country perhaps to imprison those who disagree with the Obama Administration. Rep. Bachmann made some statements that included words like “revolution”, “armed”, and “dangerous. I don’t think that kind of rhetoric is appropriate either. One, because they can be used to discredit conservatives, when I think most conservatives don’t think such camps are being built or that it is time for a revolution. And second, tragically, there are unstable people in this world who will take what the Kos fanatics or what Beck say literally and act out.

I hope both sides choose words carefully. People are anxious during these tough economic times. Unfortunately, there are a handful of troubled individuals who are incited by rhetoric that touches a nerve. Sadly, they are easily pushed over the edge.

My first Griz was at Haines Junction, Yukon Territory out on the Alcan. We were driving the Alcan to Fairbanks and we were tired and sleepy so we pulled into a campground in Haines Junction. Your notions of a campground probably wouldn’t include this place. I was going to set up the tent but I saw eyes in the bushes so, needing sleep, the truck had to do. About three in the morning the dog goes off and the truck is shaking; I have a passenger side window full of grizzly bear! You have no idea how hard it is to grab that rifle beside your seat in that circumstance! Grabbed the rifle but since getting out of Dodge was an option, it was the best option. We left the campground to the bear and drove on.

Since then, I’ve been fairly close to the Brown Bears on numerous ocassions, but never had one try to tear the door off my vehicle since. That said, I’d much rather get off my boat on one of the Southeast Alaska islands naked than get off without my 12 ga. I might live naked, but I wouldn’t live unarmed.

Not sure what you mean by that statement. As I have stated numerous times, I’m a young, moderate Republican woman. I don’t like extremes on either side. So I’m not what sure what you are talking about.

As for my “familiarity wth DKos,” I don’t know what you mean by that either. I’ve probably looked at that site twice in my life. Most of my knowledge of that blog comes from reading about it from posters here. I do watch Glen Beck fairly regularly and I particularly like him. But just because I don’t like his style and what he has to say doesn’t make me a lib.

It appears that you think a moderate Republican to you is a lib. I grew up in New Hampshire in a Republican family and am a registered Republican. But an northeast Republican, at least from what I saw growing up in Portsmouth, is different in some ways than Republicans in other parts of the country. I may be wrong about that. Just my personal experience. Most Republicans I know from my hometown are what most here would consider moderate. But my family and I would never be considered liberal by other Republicans we know in our home town. We may be less socially conservative perhaps.

You said Congresswoman Michele Bachmann had used words like “armed,” “dangerous,” and “revolution.”

This was the headline Dylan and Ethan Ris over at AOL Political Machine
Michele Bachmann Calls For Violent Revolution

Is this is the actual quote you are referring to?

“I want people in Minnesota armed and dangerous on this issue of the energy tax because we need to fight back. Thomas Jefferson told us ‘having a revolution every now and then is a good thing,’ and the people – we the people – are going to have to fight back hard if we’re not going to lose our country. And I think this has the potential of changing the dynamic of freedom forever in the United States.”

She is not calling for an armed and dangerous revolution at all. The Congresswoman is clearly using the phrase “armed and dangerous” as in “armed with the facts” on the cap and trade legislation the Democrats want to pass as a part of their green agenda, but you wouldn’t know that from the headline. If the public knows the real facts instead of spin about legislation proposed, then they can let their representatives in Congress know their re-election chances are in danger if they don’t vote they way they want. The loss of freedom is economic freedom. Bachmann is Democrat public enemy #1, because she has the audacity to quote the Constitution from time to time in opposition to legislation being passed, and this somehow makes her a wack-job. She is what Chuck Schumer calls “The Chattering Class.”

I don’t know if Dylan and Ethan Ris are left leaning wingnuts, because I don’t read much of their stuff. After reading the headline to that piece and their insinuations in the story has Bachmann calling for an armed revolution. They obviously have to put both their heads together to make a coherent thought. It must sound like a bowling alley when they do.

but do agree that we need to be prudent in language, both as a moral matter, and politically so we can be the sane grown-ups in contrast with Obama’s extreme rhetoric:

FEMA Camps Are Not Under Construction ...

rcov092 (Diary) Saturday, May 2nd at 11:21AM EST (link)

they are in the pipeline. Read the text of HR 645 (http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h111-645) filed by Obama backer Alcee Hastings (former Federal Judge impeached and removed from office).

Just ask yourself, why do we need an “emergency” camp in North Dakota. Sorry, this bill does not pass the smell test. Why do we need them on “existing” Military installations? Why is Janet Napolitano the one to select and design and implement this?

It’s not like many of us here commenting on the Binghamton shooting didn’t predict the wignuts spin.

It was a flip-of-the-coin choice between dead cops or dead immigrants, and it looks like Moulitas went with heads – dead cops.

Two points

Jack_Savage (Diary) Sunday, April 5th at 7:36PM EST (link)

1) I find it very instructive that liberals can turn on a dime and advocate for killed cops at the same time they advocate for cop killers. This continues to prove the point that the only time they care about loss of life is when they feel they can score a political point.

2) This surge by the left is simply an extension of the Kent State Paradigm. Agitation, violence against property and authority figures, and when someone is backed into a corner and makes a tragic mistake, stand on the bodies and hang the incident around the necks of conservatives like an anchor. Works like a charm to advance The Cause. If you’re really lucky, maybe a Canadian transplant will write a song about it.

It is getting old, and I thank Caleb for calling them on it.

Kudos to Tommy Christopher for reporting this.

IIRC, Clinton also obliquely blamed Newt for the 'climate of hate'

from the front page today.

I have never paid much heed to or read much of Kos and the rest, but the MSM reactions to the Tea Parties, the Miss California story, not to mention the DHS security memos on right wing activists really tells the tale of where they all take their cues.

The world is really a scary place when this stuff has become the truly mainstream drive of our culture and government. In fact, this garbage makes me more nervous about the future of the American way-of-life than Osama Bin Laden does.

They are really just throwing right in our face now. God help us all if the American people don’t wake up to this stuff. Keep it up Red State!
