Open Thread: Funny or Die

I'm going with Die

Are they asking us to vote? Yes, actually, they are. And the following got my “Die” vote in spades.

Just so you’re clear, Jesus mocking the Bible is “funny”, whereas voting on a matter of law is tantamount to enslavement.

You know, first it was “The More You Know”. Then “This is your brain on drugs”. Then “George Bush hates black people,” “Yes We Can,” and “Don’t Vote” … when are television and Hollywood going to stop cramming their religion down our throats? Aren’t they, like, against proselytizing?

When Hollywood and their Democrat underlings see your religion they say keep it in your pants. And that’s about the only thing they want out of the public square.

I mean darn it, they are restricting my civil rights to marry mutiple times. How dare they institute a bigomy law. I mean what a bunch polygamophobes, next these homosexuals will be attacking the Mormon church, even though they are even against polygamy.

The Bo-Ho flack catchers, feeling supreme in their election of The One, pull out all the stops in their mockery and attacks against tradition.

It will, of course, explode in their face. There will be a backlash much bigger than the one in the eighties, and the one in the nineties.

This is the way we can peel off minority voters, by letting them know that the LEFT means, Elites in control, Gay Culture in your face, and Killing lots of babies, especially brown babies.

This has always been the agenda of the left. Planned Parenthood was created primarily for abortion of minorities. And throughout the centuries, gays have always joined in with the haters and destroyers of culture, because they don’t fit in.

The left has always been about hatred of the middle class, and Bourgeoisie morality. Just read any of the French Enlightenment philosophers if you don’t believe me.

Well, you cannot build something lasting on hate. And you cannot have change for change’s sake. These people might very well win in the short run, But in the long run they will lose. Because they cannot run a nation.

They can put on slick productions and sing and dance, but they cannot run a country. That takes dedication, hard work, sacrifice, morality, and forethought.

Yeah, I didn’t like this video either. It had all kinds of things wrong about what Jesus and the Bible say in conjunction with context, historical literacy, and what the NT and Jesus added later.

Because a segment of society doesn’t approve of something and finds a way to pass legislation is the same thing many enviromarxists and homosexual rights advocates do too.

Just because a celeb says it doesn’t mean it’s right.

…Is anyone else as sick of “green” as I am? I’m getting tired of being told that I need to judge my every move and decision based on its effect on “the planet” or “the environment.” The latest insult is the new commercial for a popular computer, which talks not about its capabilities, low cost, or convenience, but starts its message with how RECYCLABLE it is. How insane is that? I’m supposed to think about how to DISPOSE of a durable good when I’m finished with it before I buy it–as a primary consideration? I think not!

Back in the 90′s there were bumper stickers that read “Nuke the Wales”, proudly displayed by people sick to death of the pomposity of the anti-nuclear and environmental crowds (like there’s a difference?).

The James Bond movies have always been excellent indicators of trends in public opinions, and I’ve heard that the latest Bond movie has environmentalists as the bad guys.

I’ve seen several things from Britian over the past year or two that indicate that the public’s getting pretty tired of the green movement. Then again, it may just be that the British media is displaying at least a shred of the healty skepticism that our own media has completely abdicated.

When the LEFT try to champion some sort of cause, the people who they are championing are often in disagreement.

So Insulting

DavidSage (Diary) Wednesday, December 3rd at 7:18PM EST (link)

The message these celebrities are trying to push is, “Since the Bible says some crazy things, let’s just ignore the whole thing.”

Even though these Old Testament dietary laws thousands of years ago, like eating shell fish, saved countless lives because people were unaware of how to safely prepare these foods in primitive times.

What infuriates me most is that being opposed to gay marriage has nothing to do with the Bible. The Bible never even mentions such an absurd arrangement. I could understand this feeling if we were trying pass laws against sodomy, but social conservatives aren’t trying to outlaw homosexuality.

The problem is, people by there very nature are appeasers. Americans will eventually give these people what they want, (at least in some states like California), just because they’re tired of the hysterical screaming.

I’ll be amazed if there isn’t legally-sanctioned gay marriage in California in the next 10 years.

If the people vote for it

SteveLA (Diary) Wednesday, December 3rd at 7:32PM EST (link)

David

I’m less upset about gay marriage than I am about Judges overturning the will of the people. I voted for Prop 22, I voted for Prop 8, and if they gay folks put up a ballot initiative, I’ll vote on that.

The gays don’t get this point, and the social conservatives are waging a cultural war over the issue, most people could care less and you are probably right, one day CA will vote for gay marriage, but it will be the will of the people, not the will of judges. Just like votes on stem cell research funding, abortion and other matters, local state control and state votes by the people of the state, that’s conservatism and real democracy in my book.

A True Loss

kowalski (Diary) Wednesday, December 3rd at 7:47PM EST (link)

I think one of the true losses for the generation of people growing up right now is that they have no exposure to the really good music of the late 1960s and the 1970s.

I mean this sincerely, there’s no snark here.

There used to be love songs and even rock songs on the radio that had some subtlety of feeling attached to them — some depth of sense and humanity that’s just completely missing from the music I hear now.

Of course every generation says this but I think it’s actually accurate in mine.

Can anyone even imagine anything like Anne Murray’s songs being in the Top Ten again?

The literalism of hip-hop has destroyed the ability to tell a story through a song and have it be recognized and admired as a story. It’s a tremendous loss, and the country shows just how awful things become when the music that animates people is literalized to the point being little more than pornography set to a beat.

By the way

kowalski (Diary) Wednesday, December 3rd at 7:51PM EST (link)

There are hundreds of other “lost” songs that are just as beautiful and one of the ways I measure our popular culture right now is by just how little creativity and grace there is in the music people listen to.

It’s a very blunt and angry world, full of people who have lost their capacity for feeling a lot of things honestly.

Elton John, for example, has always been one of my idols and popular music has gotten much, much worse since he did his early albums. It’s a horror show now, with very few exceptions.

Some of the vote that pushed 8 over the top were voters like me who were more upset over court actions that the fundamental issue of gay marriage. Grunge had its moments

birdmojo (Diary) Wednesday, December 3rd at 9:02PM EST (link)

It does seem like the music of today will have fewer songs that will be played in 30 years than 30 years ago had.

Think about the 70′s and I bet that we can come up with one hundred albums that would get someone else on this site to say “DUDE! That album was awesome!!!”

From “heavy metal” (can you believe we used to think that Zepplin was metal?) to prog rock to R&B to even the disposable pop of The Brothers Gibb, the stuff from 30 years ago had music that is still listenable today.

Every now and again I tune into the top 40 station (when NPR is too much to handle and 89.7 is disappointing) and, my goodness… even the good stuff is forgotten a moment later.

in an elevator; it was “Stairway to Heaven” and they actually had it on Muzak – don’t remember where or when, but I remember the moment.

I saw them on their first American tour in ’69, at least I’m reasonably certain that was them. I don’t think “metal” was a part of the vocabulary then. Whatever you think of them thematically, on their good days, Zeppelin was the best of their day artistically, and I actually even heard them a few times when I was straight.

birdmojo (Diary) Wednesday, December 3rd at 9:20PM EST (link)

When I heard Van Halen on the “oldies” station.

Way back when, when I was a little kid, we would drive around in the big brown Buick and listen to WHND, Honey Radio.

They called them “oldies” but they were closer to my mom than the songs that get played on the “Classic Rock” station are to me.

And what happened to hippie music, anyway? Used to you could hear something other than “Fire” by Jimi on the classic rock station. They’d play “Are You Experienced?” and, after midnight, some of the obscure stuff. Now they just play fire. Don’t even TRY to request Joplin.

That’s the problem with the kids today. They just don’t appreciate the amount of skill that you had to have when you had to get it done in one take.

Man is free at the moment he wishes to be. –Voltaire

Now they play it on “My 99!”

If You Want to Hear Some Great Music...

Snake45 Wednesday, December 3rd at 10:33PM EST (link)

…You folks are in for a treat when you discover the back catalog of the late, great Warren Zevon. He did 15 or 16 albums of absolutely fantastic music that most people have never heard.

For a start on him, I’d recommend his solo “unplugged” live CD, Learning to Flinch.

For the Led Zep fans out there, a couple weeks ago on Letterman (before I fired him for hanging onto the Sarah Palin jokes–someone come get me when he knocks those off) I heard a new band called The Answer that sounded more like Zep than Zep–and BETTER than most of their later albums. You can catch the performance here:

Another good “new” band is Wolfmother, who sounds like Black Sabbath meets Deep Purple with a little Zep thrown in.

Hollyweird doesn’t get my money any more either. There’s only about a movie a year that I am even tempted to go see. If it’s worthwhile I eventually see it one way or another.

The whole decadence of music thing doesn’t fry me the way the decadence of TV and movies do. It’s beyond downhill. The stuff people call entertainment is tantamount to lounging around a dirty toilet all day. Depravity seeped in and when I noticed it was with the Tarantino flicks, which I did enjoy. The difference was between enjoying and approving of. That stuff can’t be very good for society whether it’s good art or bad.

Chinese Democracy sounds dated. And sloppy to boot, a million takes notwithstanding.

What we’ve seen is the democratization of music. With the current media, anyone can make music and anyone can get that music from any location. You don’t need to make it big to produce music anymore. Thus there has been a fracturing of tastes and genres in popular music. The only ones left to make it big are those who appeal to the lowest common denominator. There’s more good music in any genre, but it’s harder to find and more specialized, and it’s harder to find truly great music. There are very few great, well-known acts from the late 90s-00s, but they are there. I would consider Radiohead, OutKast, Kanye West, Modest Mouse, Jay-Z, Nas, even RHCP (born in the 80s, but more popular through the 90s-00s) to be considered significant artists of the the times.

I certainly wouldn’t say that the music is worse now than the 80s. I see the 60s and 70s as a unique moment in modern music history. Popular music experienced a revolution that can’t be matched by simple continuation.

Actually only ever had

Honestly, I can’t figure out what they’re attempting to do with this video. It was funny, I’ll give them that, anyone who disagrees really needs to try and separate politics from entertainment. However, it is at the same time very disrespectful and plainly ignorant. this is one of the most ignorant and simply dumbfounding things that the illuminati left has done throughout this whole Prop 8 process.

They’re not going to get anyone to change their mind by insulting them, but they might get them to laugh.
