Earlier this afternoon the AP reported the Trump campaign has filed suit against Sam Nunberg, a former senior consultant for the Trump campaign. As the AP reported, the Trump campaign has alleged Nunberg leaked confidential information to reporters, in violation of his non-disclosure agreement. The Trump campaign seeks $10 million in damages for the alleged leak. In the process, the AP may have also just broken open a story of two Trump staffers allegedly engaged in an affair.
I have no knowledge of the details of this case and have no intention of speaking on the validity of the suit. That said, I do find a few things in this news to be of interest, or at least note worthy.
First, the big question I saw on Twitter when the news of the suit first broke was. “Why would he do this right now? Is it sabotage?” Those are both great questions. I am not going to attempt to dive into the mega mind of Trump to figure it out, but I would note that his fundraising generally sucks, maybe he is just getting creative.
Now on to the real meat here … Did the AP just break a story about Hope Hicks and Corey Lewandowski having an affair?
Well, let us take a look.
Via the AP …
In a court filing obtained by The Associated Press, Nunberg accused Trump of trying to silence him “in a misguided attempt to cover up media coverage of an apparent affair” between two senior campaign staffers.
And then a bit further down we have this …
Nunberg said Trump filed a $10 million arbitration claim against him and falsely accused him of being a source of a New York Post story from mid-May that recounted a public quarrel between former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski and campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks. Lewandowski was fired from the campaign in June after months of tension with other senior Trump advisers.
Now, if we go back to Page Six of the New York Post from May what do we find?
Onlookers were stunned to see Hicks, 27, hollering at Lewandowski, 42, in plain view of passersby on 61st Street near Park Avenue.
One witness told us, “Hope was screaming at Corey, ‘I am done with you!’ It was ugly, she was doubled over with her fists clenched. He stood there looking shocked with his hands on his head.”
Other sources insist the street showdown was about how to handle the announcement that seasoned political operative Paul Manafort would be taking an even larger role in Trump’s campaign, and how Lewandowski’s role would be defined going forward.
I think it is obvious now that this argument was not about anything campaign related.
But wait, as they say on the cable channel at 3 am while trying to sell you a slap-chop, there’s more!
David Martosko, the U.S. Political Editor for the Daily Mail, tossed up a helpful reminder on his twitter account with regard to the rumored affair between Hope Hicks and Corey Lewandowski.

@AlexPappas @dmartosko @SopanDeb God no. Not since he tried to tell me Corey L. and Hope H. were secret lovers.

I mean, you knew this was going to involve Roger Stone, didn’t you?
I’d be remiss if I didn’t append one last note to this post … Remember the furious allegations of affairs and impropriety within the Cruz campaign that emanated near daily from the Trump factions? Yes, this is called projection and is typical behavior of left leaning individuals, such as Donald J. Trump.
