For the Despondent Perry Supporters

The circumstances under which I write this are beyond horrible, I get it. It sucks that Gov. Perry is in this position. It sucks that the people of IA, NH, and now SC, have ignored the record of an outstanding governor and true blue conservative. It sucks that people have relied on shallow criteria for selecting a nominee.

It sucks, but the reality is, this is what has happened. The Governor’s campaign is nearly broke and he is on the verge of going into personal debt. The news on the wire is that he has conceded this reality and will be dropping out of the race. He will be holding a press conference today at 11 am ET.

With that in mind, I suggest we all do a few things.

Donate what you can to ensure that Gov. Perry isn’t left in debt when this is all over.

After SC, win, lose, or draw, thank the Governor for changing the tenor and tone of this race by giving a donation to retire whatever debt he may have. These things will allow the Governor to fight on from the outside, if that is what he chooses, or go home to TX with minimal personal damage to him and Anita.

I say all of this as one of Governor Perry’s biggest supporters on RedState. I have given what I could, I have written what I could, I have influenced who I can. I have run the race with honor and will end it with my principles intact.

Each one of us has a choice in how we proceed, we can succumb to the grief we are all feeling, looking for someone to blame. Or, we can pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and continue to fight for the ideas and principles that the Governor brought to the race. This is truly the extent of what you can do to try and change the reality as it exists right now.

Donning the sack cloth and smearing ashes on ourselves will not change the heart of a single voter, nor will it advance the cause of freedom, which Gov, Perry has been fighting for.

Our cause is greater than one man, even though our man is a great one. If the Governor leaves the race, it will be up to us to carry the banner and push those who remain more towards the ideas and principles Gov. Perry championed.

but I’m certainly going to grumble for awhile over the state of things.

Thanks for the idea to help Perry retire some debt. I will gladly do so.

The primary process is FLAWED. Two states should not decide our candidate.

If ever a candidate was crucified and ridiculed over a moment in time, it was when Gov. Perry stood, racked in pain and on pain medication and had the brain freeze. It was the pivotal moment in this race. You only get a single chance to make a first impression and that impression was devastating for Rick Perry. He went from clear leader at 39% to dead last and not because of a single thing he said. The Media, even Foxnews marginalized him from that instance and he hasn’t been able to recover.

Amen! That is exactly what happened!

I’m not wasting my money on Gingrich. Romney has almost always lead him by a huge margin in every state. And unlike Gingrich, Romney can be counted on to actually be on the ballot.

Just sent another donation myself

I am also someone who no one else even tickles my fancy or who I think can even beat Obama. I am sorry but I don’t think Mitt can or Newt and I definitely don’t see Rick Santorum doing this. I just pray for Gov. Rick Perry that God’s will be done. Gov. Perry you are the best!

But thanks to Governor Perry’s endorsement we’re probably stuck with an election between a Marxist and either Myth Romney or that self-described “Wilsonian”, Nooty Gingrich. Color me write-in.

for us… for America, most of all for Gov. Perry. He is not a quitter, never has been… never will be. But he has an obligation to his family not to bankrupt them with this race.
It is just not his time and if he runs again he will be the stronger for having entered this race. I am proud that he ran and I am proud that he is leaving gracefully.
I must say that, while my heart is broken (tears on keyboard, here), I am so happy to have him be our Governor again. I will sleep better at night knowing he is watching at the gate. He is our sheepdog against the wolves.

It’s a shame, I like Perry. If there was never a GW Bush he’d have been a great candidate. Hopefully he will back Newt and we can end up with a strong conservative nominee.

Gingrich is the only qualified person who is left in this race and he has been always my second favorite after Romney and I never had a third favorite.

No more excuses

sethellis Thursday, January 19th at 9:57AM EST (link)

Good, let’s settle this once and for all. None of this “well we would have won if the conservative vote consolidated”. Newt is a megalomaniac, and shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near the presidency. His general election campaign would be a complete disaster for the party and conservatives. It’s time he goes back to the history books where he belongs. If Gingrich loses, I want it to be as decisive as possible.

It is Romney who would be crushed

jgge Thursday, January 19th at 10:19AM EST (link)

by Obama in the general elections. There is no way under the sun that Romney is going to survive his Bain Capital record, no way.

Newt Qualified? Not if running a competent campaign is your measure.

jakeofalltrades (Diary) Thursday, January 19th at 10:23AM EST (link)

My advice: sit back and wait for the general, because Romney has this in the bag.

Newt’s only plus is debating. But Obama would be stupid to debate Newt, and he isn’t stupid. Obama’s role model, FDR, also skipped the debates against a trim-around-the-edges Republican, and it didn’t hurt him at all.

Give me a break

lightspeed Thursday, January 19th at 3:05PM EST (link)

You supported Perry, whose campaign was an order of magnitude worse than Newt’s. Perry’s campaign turned an overwhelmingly positive reception and double-digit lead into a single-digit debacle. Newt was written off in the spring and has managed to bounce back not once, but twice. You must be sorely disappointed that Perry is now backing Newt.

Disagree

aleena Thursday, January 19th at 10:26AM EST (link)

Newt Gingrich is a man who cheated on his first wife with his second wife then cheated on his second wife with his third wife. He took money from Fanny and Freddie, and he sat on a couch with Nancy Pelosi talking about global warming. His values are not my values, and I think all of his baggage will make him a very poor candidate.

Many on our side are shallow fools looking for a good debater but actual good governing records are damned for the. Many on our side want their stupid media reality shows via those stupid debates and they got it but by doing so they have made the media as their Lord and Master. Many on our side complain about the media picking up the candidates but this year and for the first time they made it a reality because the fools on our side have decided that the debates run by the media are the most important qualification for President.

Presidents do not govern and must not govern in 30 second sound bites. The “quick on his feet” is a buzzword crap that means absolutely nothing in the qualification for President. Do we want the President to make a “quick on his feet” stupid decision in 30 seconds that may heavily impact the nation and the world? I certainly do not want so.

Anyway,it is time to move on. I am now supporting the only other person in these primaries who I have always supported after Perry and that would be Newt Gingrich.

God bless you, Aaron.

After having hung on to the bitter end until I heard it from Palin’s mouth (er…keyboard) that she wasn’t running, I know how hard it is emotionally to face this reality. And you have it worse since Perry was actually a candidate for a time. There is a lot of bitterness in this race, and it takes class acts like you and Gov. Perry to avoid that “jagged little pill” and keep your eyes on the ultimate goal.

Governor Perry, I have never been as enthusiastic about

paladin1 (Diary) Thursday, January 19th at 9:47AM EST (link)

a candidate for President since Ronald Reagan. You have done great things for our state and I will have the privilege of having you as my governor for the rest of your term. I had hoped that the voters of this country could see through the early debates and hear your message through your actions in governing Texas. So many voters however, are so superficial and can only see the sound bite journalism and sensationalism of the debates.

I will continue to support you here in Texas and will help as I can to retire any debt you may have. God Bless you, and I thank you for your service to Texas. I pray you will continue to fight for small, limited Federal government from Texas. Hold your head high, Governor! God has a plan for us all.

“I will work every day to make Washington, DC as inconsequential in your life as I can.”

2012 is lost.

hls87 Thursday, January 19th at 9:53AM EST (link)

Romney will be the nominee and the Republican Party will continue to be dominated by conventional progressives for the next four years at least. The first step toward any meaningful reform has to be a conservative takeover of the Republican Party and we need to work toward that end with all the patience and optimism we can muster.

The top of the ticket this year is wasted real estate and electing Republicans to Congress won’t achieve anything, unless they are the right Republicans. Conservatives need to take as many primary contests away from progressive, establishment Republicans as possible. We need Cruz rather than Dewhurst, for example. The next step is to begin planning for the next presidential nomination fight, probably in 2016. Conservatives are hoplessly disoriented and wandering about without any clear sense of direction. We may not get another chance to make significant changes. But if we do, we need to be ready, and rediness starts with a sense of direction. .

God help America.

Well said, his87. We definitely

paladin1 (Diary) Thursday, January 19th at 9:59AM EST (link)

need Ted Cruz as our senator. Cornyn needs replaced when he comes up for re-election as well. We have our work cut out for us just trying to save Texas from the moderates. I’m glad we will have our Governor back to help.

We will not have Romney without one hell of a fight though!

“I will work every day to make Washington, DC as inconsequential in your life as I can.”

I was a Cruz supporter until I watched the

tea party saddle up forum. I listened to Glenn Addison and have changed. He was great. Of course he is not the republican party choice so he isn’t getting the funding/exposure that Cruz is. Check into his website before making a firm decision. I do still like Cruz but just like this guy better. He’s from Magnolia.

The "party choice"

texashistorian (Diary) Thursday, January 19th at 10:55AM EST (link)

is David Dewhurst, not Ted Cruz. Cruz has been the DeMint/Tea Party/SCF choice no doubt, though. Addison is going to be on Mark Davis in a bit. I’d like to hear him, but I am still a Cruz guy. Not a fan of Lepperts or Dewhurst, really.

Just as its time for Perry supporters to move on, its time for you guys to put a cork in your sarcasm and blatant agenda to get Perry out of the race. Today, you can quietly celebrate, but don’t insult us further with 24/7 commentary. You had your chances to talk about his vision and bold ideas. You refused to honor what he brought to the table, so go quietly on and start tearing down the next person you view as an obstacle to your pick. Gov. Perry will never come out and speak to the treatment he rec’d from all of you because he’s honorable and a gentleman. You’d do well to do some reflection and self-assessment.

circlegranch, those pundits you speak of did the same

tngal (Diary) Thursday, January 19th at 10:12AM EST (link)

thing to Cain. When the stories with no sources first came out from politico there was a little pushback from a couple of the pundits but it became evident that the more it was shown there was nothing there, the MSM was going to hang him with women from a 2 year period in chicago 15 years ago. That was all they could try and get him on. Then they hit him for a day or two at the suspension – then miraculously all the pundits asked for him to be on their shows.

If Perry chooses to go the “show” route it will be an opportunity to get across his ideas and what he stands for. With P being so low in the polls he wasn’t getting a lot of debate questions. He can use this as a springboard if he so chooses. Another low showing in South Carolina would have sucked all the oxygen from any new initiatives he would have wanted publicity on.

I'm sure the media is very happy

I agree, BUT

corporateprey Thursday, January 19th at 10:42AM EST (link)

I agree Greece, Europe look shaky and there is a lot of US exposure. Growth slowing in China only complicates, not to mention Iran.

BUT. Most Americans know that what we are experiencing today is more a Republican problem – things fell apart as a result (in part) of Bush’s reign, banking deregulation, etc.

Now that’s certainly a simplified version of history, but one that is easy to beat into people’s brains with billions of dollars worth of political ads.

You can say Obama hasn’t done enough to fix the economy, but that leaves the question – what would YOU have done that would have made a difference?

mbecker, I hope there's not another banking crisis in the US.

burke Thursday, January 19th at 12:04PM EST (link)

…because of the effect it will have on our economy. More jobs would be lost. I just can’t get behind hoping that the EU’s mess will severely impact our economy so as to bolster the R candidate’s chances at a win. I think conservatives can win on ideas. The economy’s plenty bad enough already, and a lot of it has to do with Obama’s choices. I can’t bring myself to do anything but hope the economy improves, sooner rather than later, because I can’t wish more suffering on Americans.

I’ve heard hopes about the EU negatively impacting the US economy suggested by several people, and I just think: why don’t we nominate a candidate who will draw people to conservative ideas rather than simply hoping the economy tanks even more?

Why do people keep saying

milehighcon Thursday, January 19th at 1:12PM EST (link)

that the only way we can beat Obama is if the economy doesn’t improve? It’s insulting, to say the least.

We can win on our ideas and by pointing out the democrats failings. It’s self-defeating for us to say the only way we can win is if the economy gets worse.

And it’s unpatriotic to wish economic disaster on the American people just to score political points. And that’s how it looks when we say things like that. We don’t need to give the MSM more ammo to go after Republicans.

But reality is reality, and I thank you Governor from the bottom of my heart for everything you have done for Texas and that you have done to bring the issues that are vital to this country to the table. You are a true gentle man and it breaks my heart that this primary has come to this. I know in your heart you and your family love this country and that you will continue to fight for the ideals we all cherish as Americans.

Governor, I have learned so much more about you during this campaign and contrary to what some so-called pundits may try to make us believe, I have even more respect for you than I did before, and I have always been a supporter of yours. Your fortitude in fighting on after painful back surgery, your good humor, your charming personality, your wonderful temperament, your humility, your ability to connect one-on-one to people, your strong faith, your support for our military – all characteristics of a great man and a great leader. You are what this country needs right now more than ever. Sadly…

Governor, as a fellow West Texan, I will welcome you and your family with open arms back to our beloved Texas, and look forward to the years ahead with you as our Governor. Texas’ gain is America’s loss.

Thank you for your military service, too, Governor – you are a good man.

Gov. Perry was our only hope at electing a true conservative. This has me so sick to my stomach, I couldnt’ even eat breaksfast this morning.

Ironically, Perry is getting more press today than he has since he entered the race.

Once again, I will hold my nose and vote for the guy with an (R) behind his name. Twice in a row is enough. When will the Republican party wake up and see that they say one thing but support the candidate who believes something else.

Perry was the only viable conservative

NickDeringer (Diary) Thursday, January 19th at 10:07AM EST (link)

Voters have fallen for the slick politician over the genuine conservative. It bears repeating that voters have lost the ability to distinguish between reality and political theater. Newt Gingrich is the Shakespeare of political theater. They have gone after personalities instead of policies. They are swooning over Fox News Contributors.

Voters will have to learn the hard way…but then again…they may not learn until it’s too late.

Thank you Gov Perry

I’d be happy to contribute to Perry except now he’s going to endorse the anti-capitalist, open-marriage Newt Gingrich.

Perry made a series of mistakes during his campaign, but none worse than this endorsement.

Give him a break.

Gingrich and Romney balance the scales in my opinion. I’m still struggling over who I would have any interest in supporting. I’ll probably just go with NOTA and save my energies for the general.

They each have major, MAJOR flaws. They are each going to have a long, hard run against Obama, and if they make any mistakes they will face a beating worse than McCain’s biggest nightmare.

NH and Iowa didn’t pick the most electable candidates. They picked the candidates that will cause us the most heartburn and headaches.

Get the adult beverages ready. We’re going to need it no matter WHO ends up on the podium.

thosjefferson Thursday, January 19th at 10:49AM EST (link)

I can’t imagine how any self-respecting evangelical can vote for a President who believes in open marriage and a First Lady who proudly carried on an affair for eight years. Gingrich is a far worse example for the youth than Clinton ever was.

Santorum and Romney are both squeaky clean on moral issues and values, both of them have led exemplary lives, and yet this appears to be a non-factor among RedStaters. From my perspective, I’m far more concerned about the moral climate of our nation than nuances of policy.

I’d be happy with either Santorum or Romney, and on the moral issues, I’d rather keep Obama than elect Gingrich.

I'm a self-respecting evangelical supporting Newt.

Please look at the record of Rick Santorum. I do not want GWB back in the Oval Office. I do not want my tax monies spent. Romney and Santorum are far from squeaky clean. You need to do some research…for starters go look at Drudge today and read the weep about Romney…and his Bain Capital. Santorum uses charities to pay his contributors…probably gets as tax deduction also. Is that the Christian way to do things…is it?

So thosjefferson, you'd rather keep a man who

What we’re seeing now is the exposure of evangelical “values.” No wonder the states with the highest proportion of evangelicals also have the highest rates of divorce, children born out of wedlock and other social problems. They’re all talk, and that’s why they identify with Newt Gingrich.

Here’s what Newt says in private:

He asked her to just tolerate the affair, an offer she refused. He’d just returned from Erie, Pennsylvania, where he’d given a speech full of high sentiments about compassion and family values. The next night, they sat talking out on their back patio in Georgia. She said, ‘How do you give that speech and do what you’re doing?’ ‘It doesn’t matter what I do,’ he answered. ‘People need to hear what I have to say. There’s no one else who can say what I can say. It doesn’t matter what I live.’

The new catch-phrase for evangelicals: “It doesn’t matter what I live.”

Ok thosjefferson, but you didn't answer my question.

Cleaning out the vermin that infests the federal government at the highest levels should be the top priority and focus of the candidates that remain.
Sadly, the Left is about to do a “Cain” on Newt with this second wife interview. Hopefully, their efforts will be a pathetic attempt that will fizzle and hopefully the voters will not get their knickers in a twist over it and go all stupid and fickle.
Romney is not the guy – he is just too unstrustworthy, Paul isnothing more than an old fool, and Santorum, while conservative, I don’t get as having the “right stuff” for the long haul.

None of the current candidates are ideal by any stretch of the imagination. Now it is time to ask which of the remaining candidates is better than the others still there. This MUST be a process of analysis not emotion! The Democrats feed on emotion and feel goodism. That doesn’t get us anywhere, neither does temper tantrums.

With that being said, I am throwing my hat over into Newt’s camp. That answer in South Carolina was superb!

If you don’t read Ben Domenech’s Transom, you should. He has a great analysis there. He always does. Erick and ben have been on top of this and its possible implications.

He also writes about that ABC story about Newt’s ex-wife and her interview where she says nothing that she didn’t already say in an Esquire interview almost 10 years ago. So, bottom line ABC is trying to do a hit piece on Newt.

I am good with it all.

can be quite melodramatic. Mitt has said time and again that his first act as president will be an executive order ending O-care. He has never supported cap and trade. He has signed a pledge promising not to raise taxes.

I’m not a huge Mitt fan. I would have preferred Perry. Unfortunately, Perry didn’t work hard enough to win the campaign. He entered late and apparently half-heartedly, and didn’t prepare for the debates the way he should have.

That said, the fact that red staters have jumped to Santorum and Gingrich over Romney, when Romney has a more conservative record than both, shows an irrational hatred of Mitt. Gingrich came out supporting O-care, cut an ad with Pelosi about global warming, and said on national TV he wants amnesty for illegals who have been in the country “for 20 years”.

I lived under Mass Health. I don’t respect the fact that Romney sold out his personal religious beliefs for the sake of being able to get elected in Mass, but I know for a fact he is actually pro-life (he’s Mormon. Have you interacted with Mormons? Pro-life.) He’s not a great candidate but he is much better than Gingrich or Santorum. Perry had his chance and he blew it with the worst debate performance in GOP primary history.

Even if there has been a true epiphany in Romney’s life that has brought it about for him to choose a more Conservative political path, the left will discredit him in any way that they possibly can, especially where his support of socialized health care is concerned. Granted, they will be going full throttle after any candidate that wins the nomination, but Romney is the one who is the most vulnerable…on socialized health care, on the divisiveness of class of welfare…he’s the most vulnerable on a lot of things.

If it comes down to Romney vs. Obama, I’ll fight tooth and nail for Romney to win, but I adamantly believe our chances of succeeding will be decreased.

Of course, Aaron is right, we should dust off and be honorable, etc., and that is what the establishment GOP and the left counts on… conservatives to be true to their core values and do the honorable thing.

That’s what I’m going to do…I have to. But that is how the left and their handmaids, the GOP establishment RINO crapweasels, are winning.

At some point, being the stupid party can no longer be considered incompetence and has to be regarded as sabotage.

I’m not suggesting we lie, cheat, and steal as the leftists do, but we need to play to win and reform the primary process and punish those who participated in this knee capping of the best qualified candidate for President since Reagan.

I will support the nominee this time.

If by 2016 we still have a country left, I will only support the GOP if conservatives have a voice.

The Tea Party just got junk punched and we better treat this like the Alamo that it was and come back and whup the enemy in both parties.

The only good news is I get to keep Perry in Texas while the rest of the country goes to Hell in a handbasket.

We are basically at 12:00 minutes left in the first quarter of the NFC or AFC championship. One out and one strike in the first inning. And the pundits, media and experts are calling it done. Use whatever analogy you want, but only a small percentage of Republicans have been given a voice.

This country continuously polls as “center-right”. The fact that the last four republican nominees are moderates at best, should indicate something is wrong with our process of selection. Until the RNC gets a backbone and fixes this, fine, extremely qualified leaders like Gov. Perry will come up short in the process. I won’t rehash other posters fine points about sound bites, etc., other than to say agreed

My 2nd vote for W was because I felt that strongly about the War on Terror. I HATED his domestic spending, however, but knew Kerry wouldn’t keep us safe.

Then came McLame.

And now (inevitably) Romney.

I keep hearing how conservatives are around 40% of the electorate.

You wouldn’t know that based on the losers we keep nominating.

Governor Perry, be strong, stay proud. At the end of the day, Texas may be the only place left to go when the rest of this union collapses on itself. This day is NOT a reflection on you, your record, or any of your “oops” moments.

It’s a reflection on the absolute ignorance of people who claim to wear the conservative mantle, on their shallowness and lack of vision, on their inability to think independent of what the polls (and pollsters) say, and of a primary process that is only too happy to let independents, democrats, various malcontents and even Martians (were it possible) to pick our candidate for us.

By my count, we’re about 6%.

We have to appeal to the center if we are to win against Obama – or even to appeal to our own party. That is why Romney has almost always been trouncing Newt thus far and statists have trounced Perry.

And if you think I’m wrong, just wait till Florida.

No, we need contrast.

milehighcon Thursday, January 19th at 1:34PM EST (link)

All Romney will do is look like a white Obama. He’s such a chameleon voters won’t be able to tell the difference between him and the left. We need a candidate who can draw clear, solid lines in the sand and articulate why the nation should elect a conservative.

It’s really too bad Perry wasn’t better able to articulate his message in the beginning, and then got blacked-out by the media once he hit his stride. Now I think Gongrich is our best choice, even with his baggage, because he can make a case for conservative values — something Santorum can’t do without making people hate him, and something Romney can’t do without looking like the tool he is: “I’m not a Big Game conservative. I just stick to the varmint issues.”

Gingrich isn’t perfect by any stretch, and I supported Perry and Cain before him, but at least he can build some contrast between liberal and conservative ideas. Romney can’t do that since he was a liberal before he was a conservative, and he’s been compromised on every important issue. Add that to the liberal media pounding us over the head with his Bain Capital days, and all the low-information voters are going to understand is that he’s a flip-flopping moderate who believes in nothing, but has a history of breaking up companies and firing people.

Gingrich, with all his flaws, at least can’t be called out as the author of Obamacare. This isn’t a social-issues election year. It’s better to have a candidate like Gingrich who can actually point out the difference between liberals and conservatives than an empty suit like Romney who can’t explain to anyone why he’s any different than Obama.

We tried contrast, milehighcon.

ceili_dancer (Diary) Thursday, January 19th at 10:38AM EST (link)

I would be torn if I was Perry if Hannity asks him to come to the concerts. It’s a great and worthy charity, but after the treatment over the last couple of months I would almost cheer if Perry gave him the proverbial middle finger and told him to perform acts of self fulfillment.
You’ll see everyone now wax at how brilliant Perry is and everyone will be clamoring to have him on their show. It’s really sad, but at least now you can see where your true friends are. Thanks to everyone on the Perry Posse here, it was enjoyable and just like my Chargers, there’s always next season, if we still have a country in 4 years.

I'm afraid that Hannity and Morris will be talking to empty air......

Hannity has a $400M contract with Clear Channel. I hope he enjoys it. He’s worthy of contempt: fully deserving of contempt.

Gingrich will obviously collapse with these new revelations, Perry’s endorsement will mean nothing as Newt will still lose South Carolina badly.

We can’t have a nominee that’s a swinger wanting an open marriage.

Could Perry have been given a second look with a Newt collapse?
Guess will never know, but we do know that Perry was never cut out for the big leagues.

The only difference is the angry ex wife gets to show emotion on video which will get people’s attention by putting a face on it. Where the Esquire piece was words on paper. The information will still be the same.

The process is fatally broken

gbenton Thursday, January 19th at 10:50AM EST (link)

When the most qualified candidate is greased out the door and the unvetted, baggage laden, inconsistent, morally flexible rise to the top, at a time when competence is MANDATORY because we face an ACTUAL existential crisis, it’s time to call a spade a spade.

The GOP primary is DESIGNED to weed out the principled and coronate the establishment moron… who, inevitably, is unappealing to the electorate in the general, which gives us slick talking sociopaths in the White House.

yes, I will ‘dust off’, yes, I will support the nominee, this one last time because hey, maybe this time the tool the establishment picked wins by a nose hair and takes down the most loathsome leftist crapweasel in history.

Plus, i won’t leave the fight mid battle.

But the GOP does NOT stand with conservatives, instead, we are the Blue Dogs of the Republican party, useful idiots who keep coming back for more disregard and we participate in our own subjugation to the statist creeps.

The Tea Party surged in 2010, we need to regroup, punch back, and you can take the ‘good of the party’ argument and add it to all the other tools the establishment uses to keep us corralled in the fold.

GOP, if you are not going to represent the founding principles, you are not going to get my vote indefinitely.

Good luck with the coronation… I’ll see you in November to vote against Obama. But this is the last time this happens with my complicity.

liberals.

I believe many are disaffected conservatives like me.

The only thing that explains Ron Paul’s polls to me is that people who love the constitution are SOOOO tired of the establishment that they’ll give the middle finger to the whole thing and hold their nose to his wacky foreign policy views.

Why Perry was polling 5% is a heart breaking mystery to me… but I believe it has to do with the heart breaking tragedy that was the W administration.

Something has happened and I don’t think most in the GOP get it…

The days of bipartisan good times in DC with mutual back scratching and the right always conceding ground so ‘things get done’ has walked us to the edge of a cliff and the statists have nearly won.

It’s time to be ruthless, not compromise on a damn thing, and demand that anyone who gets elected to represent us actually FIGHT the existential threat, not play patty cake with it while getting shivved in the night.

The left and the statists won’t show US any mercy. They’ve proven that. We should return the favor.

Thankfully, he is a powerful governor.

Rubio and others have earned my respect time and time again.

I just don’t see how they can co-exist in one party with big government power hungry statists who actively work against their cause.

We as a nation have ridden our wealth into the ground getting along and going along.

The GOP is playing not to lose. The Statists in both parties are taking no prisoners.

At some point, if you are for the Republic, the Consititution, and liberty, you’ve got to find a way to win.

Democrats are AINO’s… Americans in name only.

We know what Rino’s are.

I’m not one to say Rinos actually are as bad as Democrats…

But I will say that when Santorum supports Arlen who provides a key vote for Obamacare and Scott Brown and the Maine Twisted Sisters end up with their finger prints on Frank Dodd, Obamacare, and the like… then a big fat lot of good it does to have Rino’s supposedly superior to Democrats because THE END IS THE SAME.

If Obama wins.. I will ask you all… is the GOP incompetent or is this sabotage?

Do we get just enough heroes in the party to keep us in the fold while the statist crap weasels merely adjust how fast they run the country into the ground?

When does standing on our principles for the good of the party come at the cost to the good of the country?

That a qualified man like Perry should be run out on a rail from the primary process for superficial gaafs while Wall Street Boy Wonder and Gingrich ‘I got rolled by Clinton and cuddled with Pelosi’ charge with no serious challenge from Santorum or Paul… we got ourselves a giant suicide pact.

And I loath Eeyores… generally. I just can’t believe that the GOP process resulted in THIS despicable outcome when losing the most competent executive candidate wasn’t really an option if we wish to defeat the despicable enemy…

God help America, and God bless Rick Perry for his service.

I’ll support the nominee… but this isn’t holding my nose, this is water boarding.

Thoughts on Perry

conservativeparrothead Thursday, January 19th at 10:55AM EST (link)

I admire Rick Perrry, think he is a great Governor, wish he was my Governor, but here are some thoughts on why a man with a strong record of job creation, conservatism who appeals to evangelicals, served his country in the air force and apparently is a good family man didnt connect with Republican voters.

1. HIgh expectations – I think in some ways he was kind of like Fred Thompson, I think a lot of people, especially in the TV era want to be “moved” or “inspired” on TV, they want to see someone who is good at public speaking, debates, etc. I think many people had never heard him before, were expecting great things and he stumbled. I think Fred Thompson was kind of the same way, Fred came into the race with a lot of expectations and when you heard him speak it was kind of the preverbial….dud.

2. Once those expectations were not met, the record was somewhat easy to discredit, why? Because its Texas. Texas has had a long record of fiscal conservatism and quite frankly has been attracting jobs there for decades. Silicon Valley companies started moving there and setting up shop there long before he came to office. In some ways, his record is kind of like being the GM of the Yankees and winning the World Series. Brian Cashman just is never going to get much respect as a GM, because he has the resources to make it work. Its not like Rick Perry took over a mess like California and turned it around, or even say the job that Mitch Daniels did in Indiana. The structure of the economy of Texas was already there, he has helped it become better, hasnt screwed it up, but its not something he is going to get a ton of credit for.

3. George W. Bush – there are simply voters who either themselves will not vote for someone who holds the same job that GWB had before he came to Washington, because lets face it, he had much of the same record that Perry had in terms of taxes, job creation, tort reform, etc when he entered the race in the summer of 1999. OR Republican voters thought that someone who held this position was simply not going to be voted in by Americans, so they didnt back him.

These are just my thoughts…

I wish him the best, he seems like a great man and the people of Texas are darn lucky to have him leading their state.

Saddened but

texashistorian (Diary) Thursday, January 19th at 11:01AM EST (link)

what is there to do? I for one am not staying home and helping give the big O an easy ride into a second term. We need to keep perspective here; Perry was great, would have made a terrific President, but it’s over. That leaves three (I refuse t count Luap Nor) and not a one of them sends a thrill up my leg.

However, any of them will be better than Obama, and we need to rally around whoever it is. If it is Romney, who I despise, at least he will slow the rot long enough to get a real conservative into power in 2016 or 2020 who will institute meaningful long-term reforms.

For now, I will back Newt as my poison. Life is about choices, and sometimes none of the choices we have are good, but we have to do the best we can with them anyway.

Well, my track record in supporting candidates is dismal

Kyle-MI (Diary) Thursday, January 19th at 11:02AM EST (link)

In 2008 I originally supported Fred but he never caught fire. I then switched to Romney (more as a not McCain candidate) but we wound up with McCain anyway. This cycle I originally backed Pawlenty who promptly withdrew even before IA. I then switch to Perry, who lost steam early.

I am not crazy about any of the remaining candidates. A blah field has now become even more so. I am generally feeling like the whole country is fast leaving me behind.

How silly

texashistorian (Diary) Thursday, January 19th at 11:16AM EST (link)

do you think T-Paw feels about now? Then again, Iguess quitting as early as he did when it was completely unnecessary says something unflattering about his drive. I wonder if he regrets it given the state of the field.

My record is about what yours is- 2008 I backed Fred, then Mitt only as a non-McCain, 2012 liked Pawlenty till Perry got in, now both are gone. What a shame.

A Tragedy - Where Were the Conservatives?

ctredstater Thursday, January 19th at 12:20PM EST (link)

when we needed them?

I was hoping and praying that Governor Perry would get into the race for most of last year. It was for me a no-brainer. I don’t expect ideological perfection from
any candidate – but it was clear to me that in him we had the best qualified person as potential Republican nominee since Ronald Reagan.

Highly successful governor of a major state. Tremendous track record in what should be the #1 issue of the campaign – the economy – economy growth and jobs (with low taxes and regulatory reform as part of this).

A campaigner who in the end had never lost a campaign. An American success story – born poor – served in the military – electoral and governance success.

I was disappointed with the early debates – but give me a break. The guy is a full-time governor who hasn’t been spending the past 7 years fantasizing about becoming President. He just came off of back surgery. And debates have never been his thing.

What I can’t understand – and never will – nor will I ever forgive – those prominent “New Media” icons who just sat by and put on their “analyst” hat and never came to Perry’s defense at a time when it could have mattered.

Where was Rush? He was out there saying that Rick Perry “made him smile” and that was about it. Where was Sean? Following the horse race, and treating Herman Cain like he was s super serious candidate. Where was Mark Levin? Buddying up to Michelle Bachman and Rick Santorum, two people who I respect generally, but simply werent anywhere NEAR qualified for the job of president as Governor Perry.

How did these Big Three – and others in the next couple of tiers – not sit down as this thing was unfolding and think it through. Governors have, other than Generals always been at the top of the list for nominees for President. It was clear that any realistic conservative would have looked at this and seen how strong Perry’s record was – and therefore anticipated the onslaught from the left and from the Republican Establishment.

Rush, Sean and Mark Levin each spent hours on the radio fastidiously breaking down the criticism of Herman Cain – acting as his defense attorney as the charges came up. Other than enthusiastic support of Perry’s release of his economic plan – which they all gave – NONE of them ever stood in the breach when it counted – and got the word out to conservative and tea party America that in Governor Perry we had the Real Thing. When it could have made a difference – all I heard from these guys was the sound of crickets chirping.

Then – Nikki Haley and Jim DeMiint. To me, they have been heroes of mine. To be polite, Haley’s endorsement of DeMiint seems to me to be, how shall I say this, widely at variance with the principles which have animated her career. Senator DeMiint, who has heroically taken on the Beltway Republican Establishment – going “rogue” by endorsing Senatorial candidates because of their conservatism.. How could he stand by and act is if he was “protecting his career” while the best candidate to lead a genuinely conservative comeback of America needed a little support? I can’t understand this.

And now what do we have? Approximately 1% of the delegates have been chosen – and we are down to the Republican version of Miichael Dukakis, the sometimes interesting but flaky Ron Paul, Newt (lots to like, but lots of policy, personality and capacity concerns), and a guy who got totally blown out in his last Senate race.

Ronald Reagan didn’t turn his challenge to Ford around until the North Carolina primary. I am heartbroken that Governor Perry has made this choice. America is worse off because of it.

I am listening to Rush right now -= and he is giving a very good argument in defense of the Newt story – of his marital situation. Where was that, Rush, when the best man in this race was being hammered for Gardasil, immigration and an onslaught of the leftist and Republican Establishment crowd?

An historic opportunity has been lost. I pray for the future of conservatism, the Republican Party, and the country.

re: A Tragedy

tyman Thursday, January 19th at 12:55PM EST (link)

I could not agree more! Especially your paragraph…

“Rush, Sean and Mark Levin each spent hours on the radio fastidiously breaking down the criticism of Herman Cain – acting as his defense attorney as the charges came up. Other than enthusiastic support of Perry’s release of his economic plan – which they all gave – NONE of them ever stood in the breach when it counted – and got the word out to conservative and tea party America that in Governor Perry we had the Real Thing. When it could have made a difference – all I heard from these guys was the sound of crickets chirping.”

The candidate that believes everything they all say they wanted (Rush was the one that got me excited about Perry getting in the race for crying out loud!) and they did nothing.

Boortz, too, for that matter. Boortz has said over and over through the years that he would support the candidate that talked about liberty and smaller government. and now he acts all disappointed that Perry gets out of the race.

I guess Perry did it because of personal finances. But, I agree with you that there is TOO much to come out. If all of this stuff on Romney’s finances and Gingrich’s marriage had come sooner, it would have made Perry stand out that much more.

Santorum’s a joke. He lost PA bad in ’06, and his not-fiscal record is worse.

Oh, and CNN says that Santorum is disappointed he didn’t get Perry’s support?!? The way Santorum acted in the early debates with Perry was terrible…he acted like a whiny little kid, and still does.

I’m sure the media is laughing their butts off.

Lets not forget the wonderful folks in Iowa

ctredstater Thursday, January 19th at 1:50PM EST (link)

that was the next piece of my Perry puzzle. that he would get the northwestern Iowa conservative evangelicals to coalesce around him – as the most conservative electable candidate (the Buckley standard).

I thought from all of the videos of the Perry “surge” in Iowa – the reports of his events being packed, the enthusiasm, I really hoped it would happen.

to me, it is ridiculous for the Iowans to have “sent a message” by getting behind a guy who has no executive experience, a very questionable record on spending (by his own admission “proud of his earrmarks), and who got blown out in a state race as his last electoral race

all of this just fed into the “Perry is toast” narrative which the leftists and the Karl Rove/Ann Coulter crowd just gleefully joined in on. a perfect storm. and it didn’t happen.

I really like the news about Governor Perry doing the Tenth Amendment policy support – and rallying to Newt. If Newt collapses, there is still room in my view for a second rally for Perry. he is still head and shoulders above the crowd in terms of his resume and his character.

if not – second best, but him leading the Gingrich Charge – and hopefully keeping Newt pushed to the right on policy – will have my strong support.

A great man. A great patriot. He served our nation in the military. He led the State of Texas to the greatest job growth record in recent decades. God Bless You and Your Family, Governor Perry.

Where Were the Conservatives? Split.

naysayer Thursday, January 19th at 1:23PM EST (link)

Those that wanted an eloquent firebrand to stick it to the libs backed Newt.

Those that prioritized orthodoxy on social issues over both fiscal policy and any kind of record of governance went to Santorum or Bachmann.

Those few who didn’t mind a candidate positioning himself for the general in primary season (which was a major campaign mistake, in my opinion) went with Huntsman.

Those who sought the mystical quality of “electability” went to Romney.

And, of course, those who put fiscal issues uber alles and secretly yearn for the return of isolationism went for Paul.

Perry, somehow, got left in the cracks. Not extreme enough to pull a solid core of ideologues, not eloquent enough in the debate format to pull voters through charismatic oratory, he was an excellent retail politician with a solid conservative record, but somehow couldn’t seal the deal.

Conservatives weren't split

hls87 Thursday, January 19th at 2:02PM EST (link)

so much as they were absent. Nobody who seriously wanted to elect a conservative president wasted any time backing Bachmann, Santorum, Gingrich or Cain. None of the above was a serious candidate and every voter must have known that in his or her heart of hearts. We had one conservative candidate with the resume to mount a serious campaign. When people didn’t rally to him they were making a consequential decision. They had a binary choice between Romney and Perry. They knew the default would be Romney. They accepted the default because they didn’t have the stomach for serious changes in the status quo.

Accepting the default may have taken the form of caucusing for Santorum or voting for Gingrich neither of whom was ever more than a vehicle for protest voting. Either way, voters were ratifying the establishment’s decision that Romney should be the nominee. Apparently the GOP is a second progressive party and content to be so. It has been weighed in the balance and found wanting. If Romney wins in November judgment time won’t come around again for 8 long years.

Newts viability

corporateprey Thursday, January 19th at 12:21PM EST (link)

If you want to know how viable Newt is, pay attention to what happened in Iowa. He was surging, getting a lot of positive exposure, generally looking good.

Then…

A massive barrage of PAC money and Romney money took him out – totally and completely. And it took about a week.

Newt is a paper lion. He will be burned alive by corporate PACs and republican establishment. Both of whom are scared to death of him. He’s unpredictable, and an egomaniac. He can’t be trusted.

If he gets nominated (which he won’t) corporate america will fuel a blaze of negativity the likes of which we’ve never seen.

I disagree on Iowa

conservativeparrothead Thursday, January 19th at 12:56PM EST (link)

Iowa was very much the perfect anti-Newt storm:

1. Yes, the PAC ads were brutal against him and some of that “soft” support especially among evangelicals started to dwindlle.

But the second half of that equation was the perfect Santorum Storm:

- Iowa was a state where Santorum could play, his message of social conservatism hit home with a social conservative state, it was also a place where his lack of money didnt matter because he could retail the 99 counties in a truck and hit all the Pizza Shacks and Hi-Vee’s and Mike’s Family restaurants that he could.

- Couple that with no negative ads against Santorum in Iowa and the Vander Plaats late endorsement and you had the perfect Anti-Newt Storm.

Even with all of that, he still beat Perry and Bachman (winner of Ames straw poll) AND got 13% of the vote, combo that with RS and they crush Mitt.

Exactly right,

hls87 Thursday, January 19th at 12:58PM EST (link)

If Newt could stand the heat, he would have won Iowa. It is also interesting to note that there has been no barrage aimed at Newt in SC. It serves Romney’s purposes to let Gingrich come to the fore as the alternative. Why? Because Romney knows full well that he can destroy Newt at will. He’s done it. The most Newt can accomplish with a win in South Carolina is to take Perry and Santorum out of the race after which Romney will easily mop Gingrich up and claim the prize.

We’re in chckmate. It’s comical to watch people trying to keep the game going.

Wrong, the situation has now changed

Common_Cents (Diary) Thursday, January 19th at 1:42PM EST (link)

Gingrich in IA had little money, PAC, or surrogate help. That is changing.

Gingrich couldn’t respond in kind then but now he can. Gingrich had to respond personally, instead of through surrogates.

Gingrich can now respond through PACs and surrogates while himself, largely remaining positive and going against obama.

for just a little longer. Newt’s a joke. He is the pefect patsy for Romney and he has no chance at all. the game is over.

Personally, I’m totally disgusted that we are left with “Obama light” and someone with a borderline personality. Thanks FOX. Mission accomplished. We will have to wait til 2016 for the A team I guess. Pawlenty ’16!

Beck…because you read this stuff…or your staff does. Perry wasn’t good enough to endorse..but you sure want him back as Governor of Texas…why…because IT BENEFITS YOU..YOU MOVED THERE.

carolynr Thursday, January 19th at 4:42PM EST (link)

I know politics…and I know it well. I posted on this site because when I go out amongst the animals on the mainstream media…I was treated like I was some kind of slime. I am not.

Should Rick Perry decide to run again…I will support him. Why..because I saw what he claimed. I didn’t go to some site to find out…I saw it.

Who had the best tax plan = Perry
Who had the best jobs record = Perry
Who was the BEST CONSERVATIVE – Perry
Who was in charge of the 13th largest economy – Perry

And I could go on.

The shallow stupid people of the USA are either going to elect an Marxist anti-America or a liars who thinks it’s his turn and he has ONE LOUSY RECORD.

Got it…Good

Oh…PS…Who is scheduled for POTUS 2016 if Romney bombs…JEB BUSH

I'm with you, Carolynr...

racetraitor Thursday, January 19th at 6:30PM EST (link)

I’m convinced Romney will get the nomination and lose to Obama, so there will be a Republican primary in 2016. If Perry runs again, I’ll support him.

But right now, I’m so crushed. I’ve had tears streaming down my face since I started reading this thread.

I don’t get how people don’t understand that this may have been the last chance for America to “get it right.” I really don’t know if the republic can be saved at this point.

I’ve been praying the rosary, novenas, the chaplet; I’ve been fasting; I’ve been talking to anyone, anyone, who would listen… trying to help out Gov. Perry. I know God can bring good out of this heartbreaking situation, but this is tough to deal with.

On a lighter note (I could use smile right now), are you the one who, earlier this week, made the comment about the devil wanting you to drink holy water? That was a very funny line. Reminds me of the book “Please Don’t Drink the Holy Water,” by Susie Lloyd. Hilarious book. Maybe I’ll go read some of it and cheer myself up.

I'm a dude, so pretty much nothing can make me cry.

jakeofalltrades (Diary) Thursday, January 19th at 7:03PM EST (link)

But dang… I did have to stifle a little bit.

Hi, Miss 'traitor ... we're all crushed. My tears have

pttx333 (Diary) Thursday, January 19th at 7:25PM EST (link)

been flowing all day – can’t find the spigot to turn them off.

We must look at this as a positive as best we can. Perry has not gone anywhere … he’s coming back to continue as our Governor. When you look at the whole, everyone in the country now knows who he is and what he represents. Believe me, he is going to be very much on the national stage in the future … he’s not going anywhere. He will continue to carry the conservatism torch for all to see, and now that they know who Rick Perry is, they are more apt to listen.

We will survive, but right now I’m having a tough time. We’ll be okay, sweetie!

me too pttx333

lizzie Thursday, January 19th at 7:58PM EST (link)

tried to say goodbye to y’all in lapat’s pgoodbye post just now.

have been avoiding commenting here because there is NO reason to donate any money to Rick Perry’s campaign, certainly not until you read his financial status.

I heard he still had a few million, and, quite bluntly at aaron, I have not had a job since Bill Clinton was president and I was going to ask the Perry campaign for my tiny pittance back – I just wanted to scrape a bit away from food so he could know there was a small donor in a Blue State who wanted to vote for him.

sorry, I had just gotten a pleading email on Wednesday, and a pleading snail mail on Tuesday, when I kept telling them to NOT waste money with the snail mail requests that followed all four of my tiny donations.

Otherwise, aaron, fine sentiment.
you have to have the context. When I had to move myself to The Bronx so I could afford to live on my savings near my doctors, I wrote to my Senator Hillary (I had not voted for here because I was in Oregon in 2000) with a suggestion to help shorten the very long refurbish of Humvees from Iraq by opening a repair depot in The Bronx (best place in America to get any car fixed), and ALL I ever got in response were snail mails every other week begging me for money. I kept returning the contents, torn to shreds, with angry red ink saying “NO MORE MAIL!” in the “No Postage Necessary” envelopes, but they kept coming.
It was obscene.

I finally stopped the requests from Queen Hillary by weighting down the “No Postage Necessary” envelopes with cut up toilet paper rolls, and every free refrigerator magent I had.

They have to pay the postage for all that weight :) The magnets worked :)

Maybe six months ago, I started getting requests from the DNC here in rural Massachusetts, even though I am not registered to vote here. Probably got my name from a magazine subscription list.

Had to stop that using same technique, although I also edited every word of the letter as a LIE!, or a correction.

Just never going to ever donate one cent to anyone ever again. Not even Rick perry – I just wanted to vote for him so much.

I know a leader, and well, it ain’t over, imho.

but, my analysis is in the Horse Race thread, and my goodbye in lapat’s thread – just saw pttx333 here aat this time.

Praying for Mitt Fits!

elsewhere. I’m especially excited about the Perry Posse get-together at that email address! We can actually talk as we please. That will be so nice. I’m listed there, so we can all get together – what fun!

My arthritic hands and wrists are giving me big problems today so am limited on typing. About to give up the ghost and just read stuff for the day. Painful ailment is arthritis – particularly when both hands/wrists are involved. You are really, really limited on what you can do – open a bottle top, apply mascara, shampoo your hair, get dressed – and a biggie is trying to squeeze a bottle or tube … really painful and mostly not doable!

Oh, well, it is what it is, as Perry would say.

See ya on another format, lizzie!!! Hooray!

trevorb (Diary) Thursday, January 19th at 9:41PM EST (link)

I was real sorry to hear the news. He was our best candidate and now he’s out. However, I do not see him giving up on his message now that his campaign is over; plenty of people responded to it.

Sad it is, trev. But this is what we've got.

pttx333 (Diary) Thursday, January 19th at 9:49PM EST (link)

I have never seen another person drop out with more grace, humility and dignity than I watched this morning. No, dear, he isn’t done … he is coming home to still be our Governor, and he said he will be moving forward on the 10th Amendment! He’s not done, not by a long shot.

The good thing is that now the entire nation knows who he is, what is he is about and what a record he has, so he will be in a better position to work hard with his message. As Governor of Texas, he still has a lot of power only more so now. There are positives to every tragedy, trev.

Though this has left me emotionally traumatized and physically ill, I will be fine and will go forward banging the drum for my guy wherever/whenever I can.

I saw

trevorb (Diary) Thursday, January 19th at 9:54PM EST (link)

the video; he walked out with his head held high.

The good news, though is two-fold: the first is that his message has gotten national attention. I’m sure he’ll continue to spread it, both in Texas and nationally. The second is that now it’s harder for Romney to win. I DO NOT want him for our nominee.

There’s a reason he’s the longest serving governor in the country; Texas has created 40 percent of the jobs. The unemployment is 8.4 percent and he’s helped build a state that stands for free-market principles.

And now you know it for yourself, trev. And that

pttx333 (Diary) Thursday, January 19th at 10:08PM EST (link)

was my point. Before he ran, millions of folks would’ve said “Perry who?” Well, they sure as hell know who he is now. Not trash talk, not rumors – what they themselves saw and heard. Oh, yes, he has the record. He’s a hard-working man, very smart, and just a perfect 3-legged conservative.

I heard Rush say the only day that unemployment in reality is more like 16%, and I do believe that. Though I’m mad as Rush, I was listening to him in the car while running errands. And I do believe what he said. I do think the 8.4 number is a fake one brought out by b.o. and his minions. If their number was true, there would not now be 14 million-plus added to the welfare rolls. Pitiful, huh.

just

trevorb (Diary) Thursday, January 19th at 10:17PM EST (link)

counting the people who have given up, unemployment would be around 11.5 percent, if we had the same labor force we had in 2008. I was looking at the gallup poll for the day and that only includes people who are out of work and looking for work.

I’m expecting that the report will state that it’ll be at 8.5 with many people giving up on finding a job.

As for Perry, I guess he’s now actively campaigning for Gingrich. He was my second choice after Perry, and while I’m not enthusiastic, he’s preferable to Romney.

Even if he’s out, Perry’s message is not going to die. He’s made his voice heard and so will the rest of us.

Small voices add up to a very loud noise, trev! nt

of course

trevorb (Diary) Thursday, January 19th at 10:54PM EST (link)

which is why I prefer Gingrich over Romney. He knows to take the fight directly to the enemy. I don’t think Romney would be too aggressive and remember, Obama is running a scorched-earth campaign.

You are truly blessed to live in Texas and have such an incredible governor. If my extended family weren’t (almost) all in the Midwest, I’d be trying to convince my hubbie to pack up and move to Texas.

Thank you 'traitor! How sweet. You know, there is

Yes, hon, I am so blessed to live here. We’re getting our Governor back to stay, but he isn’t done. If you’ve been reading my posts all over the place (plus a few hissy fits I’ve had ;-) you know how I feel. Rick Perry has a big place in my heart for ever.

Perry made it clear his campaign is over, but not his intent to advance conservatism

circlegranch Thursday, January 19th at 6:49PM EST (link)

Perry, his wife and children and his parents, represent the heart and soul of America. He stands for values, patriotism and a determination to do the work this generation is called to do.

It’s not over. We’ll hear alot from Rick Perry and this time, it’ll be without the bright lights of a debate stage and trying to carve a place for himself inside a fixed, pre-ordained primary process for Romney.

God bless, Gov. Hope you’re enjoying a big Texas steak and glass or two of wine tonight.

Aaron- This is a much bigger loss than some realize

Hooah_Mac (Diary) Thursday, January 19th at 3:39PM EST (link)

It will be a generation before a candidate for President is chosen by the base or GOP voters instead of the “establishment” or “power players”. What was established beyond a shadow of a doubt this cycle is that primaries don’t matter. 48 states left to vote and most of the the candidates were pushed out – the talking heads having entrenched the meme that if you don’t win IA or NH you can’t win at all. Since the lead up time is so short, that gives little to no time for a candidate not pimped by the kingmakers to get their message out.

One of the other guys will win the nomination, and maybe the presidency, although I remain convinced that all of them are too seriously flawed to have a better than 25% to win, even against Jimmy Carter redux. The problem is, like the choices faced 4 years ago after the same thing was done to Fred!!, regardless of who wins nothing will improve. It’s still just a matter of how fast the car is going when it hits the cliff edge.

-Priorities-
1. Mission 2. Soldiers 3. Everything Else

Hooah_Mac, not to mention that the IA

texasroots Thursday, January 19th at 3:46PM EST (link)

caucus, NH and SC are open to all. Actually the democrats are deciding IA, NH and SC for the republicans. It’s a joke and needs to be fixed. Also, moving up the primaries is a total disaster. No wonder the republicans always lose.

I agree with wholeheartedly Mac.

Danielle Davis (ocleverone) (Diary) Friday, January 20th at 6:51AM EST (link)

The brakes are getting pretty worn on the car.

I wish that Perry had been able to hang in there for a few more primaries. Unlike the other candidates, Governor Perry represents a stark and clear contrast to Obama and the Washington crowd. Given time, think voters would have been able to see a clearer picture of his candidacy and him.. However, the media marginalized him and most of the time, didn’t even reference him when speaking of the field of contenders.

That being said, I wish Governor Perry and his family the very best. I will be making a donation to help retire campaign.

To me, “consensus” seems to be the process of abandoning all beliefs, principles, values and policies. So it is something in which no one believes and to which no one objects … There are still people in my party who believe in “consensus” politics. I regard them as Quislings, as traitors … I mean it. — Margaret Thatcher

Two changes needed to fix the primaries:

deVere Thursday, January 19th at 8:22PM EST (link)

(1) Republicans only.
(2) Preference voting. Enough of this you must drop out because you’re a spoiler nonsense!
