Rep Pence: “America, we can win this fight!”

H/t to Dan Riehl for the video.

A minority in congress plus the American people equals a majority … America, we can win this fight.

Republicans in Congress are hitting their stride at just the right time in this debate. The Democrats and the Obama administration are facing precipitous drops in there polling in general and in 2010 electoral polling specifically.

The media arms of the Democrat Party are doing their best to get the appropriate message out, only to find that “I won” isn’t as compelling as it once was.

As we move forward, and more come to reject the Unicorn and Pixie dust style of governance ever embraced by the Democrat Party, we will see clearly their frustration. We will see it as they abuse their constituents. We will see it as they abuse their own caucus. And most of all, we will see it in the disregard they show for the Constitution.

We will see all of this and be tempted to give up, but we must not.

In those times we should remember the words of Rep. Pence and others like him.

A minority in congress plus the American people equals a majority … America, we can win this fight.

My 2012 candidates for President list just got longer

Wes_W Thursday, March 18th at 5:04PM EST (link)

Mike Pence for President with Paul Ryan as his VP

Long list indeed at this point

Tom Anderson (Diary) Thursday, March 18th at 5:44PM EST (link)

Pence
DeMint
Ryan
Coburn
Palin
Jindal

I’m sure I’ve left some out and others will come to my rescue and complete the list.

The point is, we’re gonna have a full house to choose from when 2012 rolls around…and that’s a GOOD thing!

All things being equal, I’d prefer a Gov at the top of the ticket, but you’ve got all the best legislators on there. Nice list.

It ceases to be compelling the moment sufficient people come to regret the fact.

That said, it isn’t compelling at all, but rather the snide taunt of someone miles removed from their depth, but I think this is implied by the author.

At this time their are 3 great Republican candidates running for the opportunity to defeat her. This seat was Republican before and with this vote it will flip back to Republican.

It lists 36 no’s or likely no’s. But I count two or three as potential flippers: Teague, McMahon, Lynch. But I count at least six undecideds as likely no’s: Altmire, Ellsworth, Kaptur, Molohan, Nye, Dahlkemper. It’ll be close but so far so good. If all the no’s on The Hill’s list come through, the bill will go over the top by three or four at least. A key to all this is geography. Most of the no votes come from red states. Some of the no’s come from swing districts. Some are pro-lifers. That’s a potent combination.

I meant to say...

writeblock Thursday, March 18th at 7:16PM EST (link)

…the bill would go down by two or three. The no’s would go over the top by two or three. My bad.

but he is running for Senate this year rather than Rep. That makes him more susceptible to the overall conservative nature of the state.

Another piece of good news...

The Washington Post just now put Zack Space of OH in the leaning no column. Big surprise. He voted yes last time around and was on nobody’s list as even undecided. .

From the same Washington Post article:

writeblock Thursday, March 18th at 10:54PM EST (link)

As it did in November, the final outcome could hinge a bloc of antiabortion Democrats who voted “yes” on the House bill but fear the Senate bill would open the door to federal funding of abortion. Rep. Brad Ellsworth (D-Ind.), a bellwether among conservative Democrats, said the abortion issue had prompted much soul-searching.

“Certainly you listen to people back home. But pressure from phone calls from down the road or down the hall absolutely don’t weigh into this,” he said. “I have to be able to put my head on the pillow at night and say I did it in good faith. . . . And I’ll sleep comfortably when I make that decision.”

youthgrunt (Diary) Thursday, March 18th at 11:04PM EST (link)

this weekend. That is the right thing for Ellsworth to be saying. It is the kind of thing that Bayh would say just before he caved to the party leadership.

Quite frankly I don’t think Ellsworth will win the Senate seat. But if he votes for this bill it will be over and I think he knows it.

And still another bit of good news...

Roll Call says Lynch is a firm no. The following is from their article:

Lynch, in particular, was a blow to reform supporters, since the former union president had not been on any watch lists of potential vote flippers. He ripped the Senate-passed measure as a “surrender” to insurance companies, and he held fast to his opposition even after a meeting at the White House with President Barack Obama on Thursday afternoon.

The public would go wild if someone was honest and addressed them as “enemies of America”

“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”

You mean wild positively ? or negatively ?

Jonas Parker Thursday, March 18th at 10:32PM EST (link)

I don’t know about ‘wild’, but as a veteran of political and corporate wars, my sense, which has not failed me in 40 years, is that NOW is the time to be aggressive and apply these labels and other vernacular initiatives to begin to turn the public discussion against the communists (and I don’t use that term loosely). We have failed in that regard for most of my life.

That’s not even touching on the more ‘substantive’ things we should be doing at this moment when the fury of most of the people is directed against our enemies. And, they are enemies, as you say, not friends, and not even people that I think in the long run we can co-exist with.

Sooner or later, one side or the other here will win, for keeps. I say… WE WIN !!

I mean positive

cabanon Friday, March 19th at 9:06PM EST (link)

that is, I mean the public is hungry for some brutal honesty and we should speak up and call’em out for what they are!

Those who were strongly leaning against a day or two ago are flipping their votes today. Obama has promised the moon. Gordon didn’t suprise me but I feel i wasted my time calling his people when I could’ve actually called someone who was keeping track of how the people in their state felt. Even our crummy governor doesn’t approve of it, and he’s the leftiest, left winging, leftapod that ever existed.

I don't think this is accurate...

…none of the flippers were strong. Kucinek was always a potential flipper. None of the others were firm. If you check the Hill’s list of no’s, it’s pretty tight. I’d say two may be doubtful, possibly three if Lynch backs down–which would bring the total to 33. But there are at least six or seven potential no’s among some of the undecideds: Nye, Molohan, Kaptur, Dahlkemper, Ellsworth, Altire–maybe Baird and even a few others. They don’t have this nailed down yet.

Here's what the Post said:

writeblock Thursday, March 18th at 11:01PM EST (link)

Throughout the day, a flurry of lawmakers announced plans to switch from one column to another. A pair of second-term Democrats — Michael Arcuri (N.Y.) and Zack Space (Ohio) — told House leaders they were leaning against the legislation after voting “yes” in November. Obama brought a third potential “no” voter, Rep. Stephen F. Lynch (D-Mass.), into the Oval Office for a face-to-face discussion. Before the meeting, Lynch criticized the compromise, bemoaning the lack of a government-run insurance option and calling it “a great bill if you’re an insurance company.”

you still optimistic?

earlgrey (Diary) Thursday, March 18th at 11:08PM EST (link)

Everyone is pretty down on most of the sites.

Boccieri is a likely switch.

We can’t count on Tanner, Baird, Altmire. Lynch could move to no. I told someone else on this site. I’ll keep fighting, but part of me is wanting to prepare myself for defeat to keep from feeling a body blow on Sunday.

Have a good night writeblock. I like reading your posts. My husband is going to kill me if I don’t get off the web. I am kidding of course.

We have reason to be optimistic.

writeblock Thursday, March 18th at 11:27PM EST (link)

Nobody thought it wouldn’t be close–but we’ve got a lot of strength on our side. About 33 no’s are firm. Five more are likely. This includes some surprises–Space and Lynch now are leaning no–and about seven other potential no’s that haven’t weighed in but look good. Stupak’s gang is hanging tough. We’re not in bad shape at all–but the stakes are so high that it’s only natural people are super-anxious. But it’s not reasonable to think this is lost. Not by a long shot. This is not the sort of issue that people play games with, not with pro-lifers, not with an election looming in a lot of swing districts. So arms can be twisted–but only so much. I think the fact that a Saturday vote was called off till Sunday is a good sign so far. They don’t have the votes.

Baird said he didn’t budge.

“I discussed alternatives I would like to see,” Baird said. “I told him we ought to do smaller steps or a broad rewrite.”

whole article:

Baird can be independant when he wants. He supported the Surge in Iraq: he faced down a Democrat counter-insurgency (funny how that happens). He also voted against health-care the first time.

Lynch is a pretty firm no...

writeblock Friday, March 19th at 12:03AM EST (link)

…according to Roll Call–after meeting with Obama. And the Washington Post just announced Zack Space of Ohio is leaning no. About seven others may vote no–in addition to the 35 or 36 mentioned by The Hill. Sure it’s nerve-wracking–but we’re also not doing that bad. Probably more reason for optimism than pessimism. The Stupak gang is principled. Many of the no votes are from very conservative states. Some from other regions are facing close elections. It;’s looking pretty good.

Their numbers are still shy. And, the definite “no’s,” according to the progressive blog, Firedoglake, are still up 203-210, with leaners included, and there are even higher “no’s” when the leaners are not counted (191-206).

Kucinich, Markey and Gordon all voted “no” in November and have switched to “yes.” Of those, Kucinich initially appeared to be the most unpersuadable. That goes to show that the guy doesn’t have as strong of principles as I had believed. He’s no longer in Ron Paul’s league, as far as I’m concerned, when it comes to holding fast to principle.

Gordon was considered persuadable by Jay Cost. He rated Markey as harder to persuade – in the medium category.

Back to D.C

rsexteriors (Diary) Friday, March 19th at 12:33AM EST (link)

for the 3rd time this Saturday (March 20th).

Steve King and Michelle Bachmann are asking for people to come to Washington D.C one more time for a rally and hopefully visits with House members. They want a million people.

They can’t just keep ignoring us and get away with it. I know it is hard to drop everything and go to D.C. Most of us have JOBS. I have two jobs, but the country comes first. I swore an oath to the Constitution when I entered the Military and although I am no longer in the military I still take that oath seriosly, unlike Obama and many of our representatives.

Think about it. Take off and drive down to Washington D.C.

The best thing I have found is not to drive into the city. get on the washington D.C website and look up the Metro. It goes well out of the city in every direction. I drive from PA down to Maryland and get on the first stop (redline) in shady grove MD. They have parking for 5000 cars. Just costs a few dollars for the 30 minute ride right to Union Station. Get off and walk right over to the Capitol building.

http://www.wmata.com/rail/maps/map.cfm

When I went down on 9/12 it took three hours to drive to metro station and 30 minutes into Union Station. I stayed a few hours got back on the metro and boom home in 3 1/2 hours just in time to make my sons football game.

Take the time and lets do this
